Self-Care Sunday: Travel is a State of Mind

Happy Self-Care Sunday, Friends! Physically, I’m in VA, but over the past several weeks, I’ve transported myself to different parts of the world. Adding travel-inspired elements to my life allows me to feed my wanderlust and it brings me hope for when I can explore the world again.

Here are a few of my favorite travel-inspired things:

✅ Using the recipes I’ve collected from my trips and cooking dishes that are inspired by cuisines around the world. I’m using the spices, oils, ingredients I’ve picked up on my travels!

🍍pro tip: visit a grocery store during your trip and pick up local spices, ingredients, chocolate, coffee at a fraction of the cost!

✅ Feeling zentastic whenever I light the spa candle from the Park Hyatt Aviara or use my singing meditation bowl from Thailand during my Nat Geo Journeys wellness retreat.

✅ Re-reading my post cards. The day before I leave for home, I pick up a post card and jot down my trip highlights and then I mail it to myself. I love seeing how long it takes to be delivered and enjoy seeing the stamps and postmarks.

🍍pro tip: collecting post cards is one of my favorite souvenirs: it’s personal, takes up no luggage space, and it’s cost effective

✅ Enjoying the luxury hotel amenities. The scent from Asprey Purple Water brings me back to Switzerland and the Ritz-Carlton Geneva.

✅ Using plumeria or pikake scented hand-sanitizer from Lanikai Bath and Body floods my mind with memories of Aloha land and relaxing at Lanikai Beach.

✅ Trying out authentic cocktail recipes from my travel friends: Painkiller from BVI, Mai Tai from Hawaii, Aperol Spritz from Sardinia, Arizona Sunset from Miraval Tucson, and my very own Pineapple7 cocktail from Grand Cayman. I’ve also enjoyed wine that I picked up in Napa and Tuscany.

How are you feeding your wanderlust? There are so many things we can do right now to keep the spirit of travel alive and make ourselves happy.

I’m really looking forward to the future of travel where I will be able challenge myself to try new activities, taste the world (I believe the best way to experience a place is through its food), step foot on another continent, and indulge in many more spa treatments!
